Revisiting Chocolat - Celebrate 10 Years of Food 'n Flix!

This month we're celebrating TEN YEARS of Food 'n Flix by revisiting the very same movie we drew inspiration in the kitchen from that first time—Chocolat! The first invitation to participate was short and sweet; I wasn't even sure if anybody would join me. I just thought it would be fun to take all of that delicious inspiration from a movie that I loved into the kitchen. But people did join in! And we had so much fun that we've been doing it over and over again for 10 years.

Once upon a time, there was a quiet little village in the French countryside, whose people believed in Tranquilité - Tranquility. If you lived in this village, you understood what was expected of you. You knew your place in the scheme of things. And if you happened to forget, someone would help remind you. In this village, if you saw something you weren't supposed to see, you learned to look the other way. If perchance your hopes had been disappointed, you learned never to ask for more. So through good times and bad, famine and feast, the villagers held fast to their traditions. Until, one winter day, a sly wind blew in from the North...

I've been entranced by this magical, food-laden, sensual film since the first time I layed eyes on it!  If I remember right, I saw it on Valentine's Day...many, many years ago...when it first came out in theaters.  With the hubs.  Before he was the hubs.  I've owned it for many years on dvd, as well...and pull it out every six months or so to be transported to that tranquil little village that gets turned upside down...shaken up...and lands right back on its feet...better for the ware!  I was glad to see so many people join in our first pick here at Food 'n Flix...most of whom already held a special place in their movie stack for their own copy...and a few who watched it for the first time!!  So, without further ado...let's check out what Chocolat inspired in everybody this month...

How will Chocolat inspire you in the kitchen?

Nominated for 5 Academy Awards...Chocolat is the beautiful and captivating comedy...Nobody could have imagined the impact that the striking Vianne would make when she arrived in a tranquil, old-fashioned French town. In her very unusual chocolate shop, Vianne begins to create mouth-watering confections that almost magically inspire the straitlaced villagers to abandon themselves to temptation and hapiness! But it is not until another stranger, the handsome Roux, arrives in town that Vianne is finally able to recognize her own desires!
