This month we're taking a trip back to the 80's. 1988 to be exact, with the movie 'Mystic Pizza'. The film, starring Annabeth Gish, Lili Taylor, and an introduction of the actress who would come to be known as "America's sweetheart": Julia Roberts, quietly captured a place in the heart of a generation with its tender, funny, and at times, heartbreaking coming-of-age tale.

On this journey we get to know two sisters, Kat and Daisy along with Jojo as they navigate their way through the trials and triumphs of friendship, first love, heartbreak and growing up...

While the residents of their small Connecticut town, Mystic, are becoming increasingly mystified by the irresistible pizza served up at the parlor where the three girls work, they discover that finding out who they are can be just as bewildering.

Many of us remember seeing this movie for the first time.

Break out the aqua net. Don your best neon. And bring your appetite. We're heading back to Mystic for "A slice of Heaven."

I've been entranced by this magical, food-laden, sensual film since the first time I layed eyes on it!  If I remember right, I saw it on Valentine's Day...many, many years ago...when it first came out in theaters.  With the hubs.  Before he was the hubs.  I've owned it for many years on dvd, as well...and pull it out every six months or so to be transported to that tranquil little village that gets turned upside down...shaken up...and lands right back on its feet...better for the ware!  I was glad to see so many people join in our first pick here at Food 'n Flix...most of whom already held a special place in their movie stack for their own copy...and a few who watched it for the first time!!  So, without further ado...let's check out what Chocolat inspired in everybody this month...

One quest I've (Heather from girlichef) been on for some time now is find the perfect chocolate cake.  I baked up this Chocolate Cake with Chile & Espresso in hopes that I would find the one (the one that looks like Vianne's)....it was good, "but not my favorite."

Christy from Fudge Ripple made a "warm chocolate sauce with a bit of a kick that becomes a bit chewy when it hits the cold shock of ice cream."  She thought Roux would approve...I'm positive he would!!

Angie from Cocina Diary not only bakes up a gorgeous Chocolate Ricotta Soufflé in honor of Chocolat, she also conquered a nemesis along the way!  I'd love to sink my spoon into that masterpiece!

If you know me, you know my love of molé...and Joanne from Eats Well with Others dug deep and finally made some of that gorgeous sauce she's been "meaning" to make for years.  Chiles, raisins, nuts...and chocolate, of course...in Jo's Red Molé.  Drool.

My partner in crime here at Food 'n Flix... Ree of Milk, Sugar, Musings & Love made some drop-dead awesome sounding homemade Chocolate Graham Crackers.  You do not know how long I stared at the screen willing some live-action Wonka-vision to come into play!!

Next up we've got Natashya of Living in the Kitchen with Puppies wondering where she can find her very own Irish Pirate to feed chocolate nibbles to...and maybe even some of her mouth-watering Giant Heart-Shaped Brownie.  Awesome!

Next up is Deb from Kahakai Kitchen who just so happens to be in the midst of her Eat Local Challenge uses locally grown Hawaiian chocolate to make these oh-so-decadent Pots Au Chocolat.

Brenda from Brenda's Canadian Kitchen baked up some tempting Chunky Chocolate Toffee Cookies after she watched Chocolat...and got hooked (sorry.  not really.) on the movie after putting off watching it for so long!  Welcome to the club ;)

Although Kim from Stirring the Pot went through a few...hmmm...shall we say...trials, while in the kitchen preparing a batch of what was meant to be meringues...she was comforted by the unexpected result of some amazing-looking Mexican Chocolate Meringue Truffles!
